ACHIEVEMENTS
In the 2012-13 school year, GLC achieved the same high standards for its students benchmarked in the prior year. 84% of students improved their reading, and 31% of students improved by two or more instructional levels. Almost all of our students had strong homework grades, and 90% of students earned Outstanding or Satisfactory homework grades. GLC's achievements have been recognized by:
- Fall 2012, GLC's Executive Director received Honorable Mention for the Gelman, Rosenberg and Freedman EXCEL Award, recognizing outstanding leadership among Washington-area nonprofit chief executives
- 2012, Semi-Finalist, National Summer Learning Association’s Excellence in Summer Learning Award
- Fall 2011, Winner, Center for Nonprofit Advancement's Board Leadership Award, recognizing GLC for good governance and innovative board practices
- Fall 2011, Winner, Arlington Community Foundation's Prize for Innovation and Impact
- November 2011 article in Bisnow
- Spring 2011, National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award Finalist, recognizing GLC as "one of the best arts- and humanities-based youth programs in the country."
- Fall 2010, 2010-11 Catalogue for Philanthropy: Greater Washington as one of the area’s best local nonprofits.
- November 2009, GLC’s Executive Director received the Emerging Leader Award from the American Society for Association Executives & The Center for Association Leadership, marking GLC's first honor from a national organization
